Tully Talks

I think that Gever Tully's teaching method, through the Tinkering School, teaches the young kids a lot about life in general. I think that it was totally unique how they celebrated their failures. This school teaches the kids that it is OK to fail, that not everything is based on a win or fail scale. I love how this school celebrates everything and how it shows the kids that it is sometimes essential to fail. I believe that you learn more from failures than you do your successes, and in today's system of education and even today's society, failures are disciplined. When someone fails, the world views it as an embarrassment, not a learning experience. This needs to change on a worldwide scale, these failures need to be seen as a sign of strength, not weakness. I know that I thrive in a very hands on and kinesthetic environment. I excel in environments where I am free to problem solve and create things that work.

My Labor Day Weekend

Labor Day, for most people it is a time to take off with your family and friends, but for me it is just labor. I worked all 3 days of this 3 day weekend, and a grand total of 5 days in a row for my weekly quota. With everyone off having fun camping and fishing and boating and whatever else, this was the slowest but the most hectic weekend I have worked in a long time, but only because everyone came in huge groups. For the most part, the customers were really nice, but each day I had one table that had one person that was absolutely unbearable. Each of them recieved their very own nickname from the other staff members, as I would share the stories of how they treated me. So therefore, my Labor Day excitement was deciding what name to call my unruly tables.

Hi. I'm Megan Whitehead, I'm an avergae 19 year old girl. I grew up in Sparta WI but now I live in La Crosse. This is my 2nd year here at Western, and next year I am hoping to transfer to UWL, for social work. I have a very energetic personality and am extremely funny, a side that you will see if you take the time to get to know me.
